One lesson is genuinely all most people need, I know that even before meeting you.
That said, if you'd feel better with a safety net, you can book a second lesson, or a 30-minute Zoom rehearsal so I can check your progress before the big day!
-
IT’S NOT AT ALL! I teach half of my week over zoom, because I know how beneficial it can be.
I’ve seen it work with couples all over the world.
We start by chatting, and then I have you set up your computer in an area I see fits (you do not need a big space- typically between your couch and TV works best).
When you record videos at the end of your lesson, I have you set up your phone, instead of recording the Zoom lesson (it’s easier to watch on repeat if it’s on your phone).
-
YES! Half of my week is devoted to making sure those dances get a little attention too,
so you’re not swaying the entire time (or to distract you from crying).
-
About 3-6 weeks prior to your wedding,
but booking that time should be a few months in advance to secure a spot that works for you.
I teach every evening, but those evenings can fill up fast!
-
I always recommend having them sing this live. You’re not learning a super choreographed dance where you’d need the recording and I think it adds an element of entertainment with them singing behind you (you also paid them good money to be there, so use them).
That being said, I will follow up after your lesson with instructions to give them, so they know how much of the song you want, or any special arrangement we discuss.
A music cut is provided if needed, so they can be clear on how you want them to sing it.
A music cut is provided to those who have a DJ as well!
-
I can help you decide between a few,
but I definitely think you should choose a song that you both love, so that it shows in your dance.

🙋🏻Frequently Asked Questions🙋🏽♀️
⭐️Client Reviews⭐️
“Maya was so professional, great to work with, and very detailed. We had so much fun with our dance and photos turned out so great. We literally did one lesson with Maya and then just practiced on our own and were so happy with the whole thing.”
“We met with Maya Moves for one session to prepare for our first dance. I was initially uncomfortable with the idea of a first dance, but it was very important to my fiancée so I agreed to a lesson with Maya. I can’t speak highly enough to how effective Maya was in making us feel confident and prepared for our first dance! “
“We were initially a little apprehensive about only doing one session with Maya and having that session be virtual instead of in-person. We sort of assumed that an in-person experience would naturally yield the best results, but decided to trust the assertion that we might be okay with a virtual appointment. That turned out to be totally right - Maya does not treat virtual appointments as less-than. She showed up having obviously thoroughly read (and likely studied) our intro email, used both our names regularly throughout our session, gave us mindful homework and clear goals, and massively put us at ease for our next steps (pun very intended).”
Meet the team:
Haley Grove
Haley Grove first met Maya in 2020 while the two were teaching hip hop to young dancers at East Side Dance Company on the Upper East Side. Their shared passion for helping beginners feel confident and comfortable while learning to dance eventually led Haley to join the Maya Moves team, where she now helps couples feel at ease and have fun on the dance floor.
When she’s not teaching with Maya Moves, Haley serves as the Head of Operations at East Side Dance Company, and continues to work with young dancers. She also works professionally in the dance industry as a performer and choreographer.
Haley’s on-screen credits include dancing in Little Women (2019), and most recently, she choreographed and appeared in a commercial for Canon Camera.
Her favorite song to use with couples:
“Beyond” by Leon Bridges
because it’s beautiful, soulful and has room for the couple to show their personality
Mary Anne Floyd
Mary Anne Floyd first met Maya while training with Israel's internationally renowned Vertigo Dance Company in 2016. She later completed her Vinyasa Yoga certification, deepening her passion for helping people of all backgrounds feel comfortable moving in their own skin. Mary Anne is a born teacher who loves helping others learn new things with ease and a sense of humor.
During the day, she is a preschool teacher, where she has developed the patience, encouragement, and adaptability to help everyone feel comfortable when learning something new. She loves breaking down complex ideas and movements into approachable, achievable steps. Mary Anne believes preparing for your first dance should be a joyful and fun part of the wedding planning process, and one of the most delightfully stress-free parts of the journey.
Her favorite song to use with couples:
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Frankie Valli
mostly because it’s a classic & has that perfect slow-into-fast trajectory, but it was also her wedding dance song
she got married in July 2026!
